BARNI ROBERTO

PISTOIA 1939

Roberto Barni is an Italian sculptor and painter associated with contemporary figurative art, known for his refined bronze sculptures and distinctive, often surreal imagery. Born in 1939 in Pistoia, Italy. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where he later became a professor, contributing to the development of younger generations of artists.

Barni began his career as a painter, initially influenced by Pop Art and contemporary visual culture. In the 1970s, he gradually shifted his focus toward sculpture, developing a highly recognizable style characterized by elongated human figures, balanced compositions, and a sense of suspended movement.

His sculptures, often cast in bronze, present stylized human forms engaged in symbolic or enigmatic actions—figures carrying objects, walking in improbable poses, or interacting in subtly ironic ways. These works combine classical references with a modern sensibility, creating a dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression.

Throughout his career, Barni has exhibited widely in Italy and internationally, participating in important exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale. His works are held in numerous public and private collections.

In addition to sculpture, he has continued to work in drawing and painting, maintaining a coherent artistic vision across different media.

Roberto Barni lives and works in Tuscany. He is regarded as one of the significant Italian sculptors of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, appreciated for his poetic and timeless representation of the human figure
