SCATIZZI SERGIO

LUCCA 1918 - FIRENZE 2009

Sergio Scatizzi was born in 1918 in Gragnano, near Naples, Italy. He spent much of his life in Tuscany, particularly in Florence, where he developed his artistic career and became closely associated with the region’s cultural environment. Scatizzi was largely self-taught, though he was influenced by major figures of modern art, including Paul Cézanne and Giorgio Morandi. His work evolved toward a personal interpretation of landscape, often depicting the Tuscan countryside, still lifes, and urban views with a strong emphasis on tonal values and atmospheric depth. Throughout his career, Scatizzi exhibited in numerous galleries and participated in important Italian art events such as the Venice Biennale and the Quadriennale di Roma. His paintings are characterized by a vibrant yet balanced palette, where color becomes the primary means of expression rather than strict representation. In the later stages of his life, his style became increasingly abstract, with forms dissolving into patches of color while still maintaining a connection to real-world subjects. This evolution placed him among the notable figures of 20th-century Italian painting. Sergio Scatizzi died in 2009 in Florence. Today, his works are held in private and public collections, and he is remembered as an important interpreter of the Tuscan landscape in modern art.
